Job summary

Par Pacific is seeking a Safety Relief Engineer to lead pressure relief analyses and PSPPM studies at the Montana refinery. You will drive safe, compliant relief system design, mentor teams, and collaborate with cross-functional peers to ensure robust risk management and timely mitigations.

Reporting to the Process Engineering Supervisor, you’ll influence decision making, maintain SRR documentation, and support change management following API/PSM standards in a dynamic, growth-focused

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in oil, gas, or petrochemicals.
• Experience with flare modeling tools: PPM, Visual Flow/Visual Flare, FlareNet.
• Experience with PROII or HYSYS.
• Familiar with OSHA PSM 29 regarding Relief System Design and Basis and PHA.
• Solid understanding of process design fundamentals for safety, PSV sizing per API 520/521; pipe sizing, hydraulics, valves, heat exchangers.
• Strong communication skills and analytical problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead pressure relief system analyses for projects and site activities.
• Deliver efficient PSPPM studies and solutions.
• Assist with risk-based decision making from relief study recommendations.
• Evaluate change proposals for SRR impact; update documentation.
• Maintain SRR design basis data including SV sizing, balances, and flare model basis.
• Support risk assessments, mitigation options, and prioritization input for timing.
• Create MOC for relief devices and piping modifications.
• Perform SRR-related PSSR tasks when assigned.
