Job summary

CVR Energy is seeking a Chemical Engineer with 2+ years of refinery experience to support operations, monitor product specifications, and assist in capital project design. You will work with engineering and operations teams to optimize processes and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Chemical Engineering (MS preferred), proficiency in process simulation tools, and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in oil refinery process engineering or operations.
• Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis is preferred.
• Experience with flow sheet development, equipment sizing, pressure relief, hydraulic calculations, PHA, process simulations and studies.
• Ability to set up and maintain unit monitoring spreadsheets with mass, heat and material balances.
• Strong computer skills including Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of HYSYS, PRO-II, PROMAX, VBA, MATLAB preferred.
• Understanding of mechanical equipment, PFDs and P&IDs.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for Plan Operations and unit monitoring.
• Assist in design and development of capital projects and optimization.
• Collaborate with operators and engineers to troubleshoot and develop process controls.
• Coordinate with drafting and engineers for equipment sizing and design.
• Support process catalysts, chemicals bidding and vendor information flow.
• Assist in planning unit shutdowns and startups and provide data to vendors or maintenance.
• Track performance with spreadsheets and share data with project teams.
• Support expansion projects by supplying lab and operation data to engineering groups.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
