Job summary

CHS Inc. is seeking a Process Engineer for our Laurel, MT refinery to design, start-up, and support unit operations. You will review P&IDs, help diagnose issues, and implement technical solutions that improve safety, reliability, and economic performance.

The role requires a Bachelor's in chemical engineering and 2+ years of relevant experience, with strong communication, organization, and teamwork. Proficiency in MS Office and process simulation tools is a plus, along with compliance to safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
• 2+ years of process engineering or refinery experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and data analysis tools.
• Familiarity with refinery unit operations and process safety concepts.

Responsibilities

• Support facility design, process control strategies, and day-to-day unit operations.
• Review and maintain P&IDs, including field verification and updates.
• Diagnose and resolve plant issues using engineering principles.
• Develop solutions to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Prepare technical reports on catalyst performance, energy/mass balances, and feeds/ products.
• Assist in design evaluations, unit modifications, and handling operational constraints.
• Participate in MOC, PHA, and PSM audits; support safety actions.
• Collaborate with vendors to monitor performance and optimize profitability.
• Support refinery turnaround planning and major maintenance events.
• Contribute to cross-disciplinary engineering knowledge across refinery functions.
• Specify and troubleshoot instrumentation systems.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and refinery engineering practices.
