Job summary

PBF Energy Inc. is seeking a Lab Superintendent for the Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA to lead the refinery laboratory operations and supervise both salaried and hourly staff involved in analytical testing seven days a week.

The role emphasizes safety, data integrity, and quality management, with collaboration across Operations, Technical, Economics & Planning, and Product Quality to ensure accurate testing and regulatory compliance, while promoting continuous improvement and safe,

Qualifications

• 10+ years of related industrial laboratory experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Organic or Analytical Chemistry or equivalent
• Supervisory experience in a union environment preferred
• Familiarity with industry process safety and environmental regulations, refinery processes knowledge and budgeting preferred

Responsibilities

• Establishes expectations, priorities and performance objectives for the Refinery Laboratory
• Leads safe, reliable and efficient operation of the laboratory and supporting systems
• Oversees data integrity programs and quality management systems for accurate analytical results
• Reviews COQ and quality docs to ensure compliance with specs and customer requirements
• Provides leadership to Laboratory Shift Teams and day organization to meet refinery needs
• Develops training programs to maintain technical skills of laboratory personnel
• Manages staffing, workforce planning and overtime to ensure safe operations
• Collaborates with Operations, Technical, Economics & Planning, Product Quality and other departments to support daily operations
• Communicates timely laboratory information to leadership and stakeholders
• Manages laboratory operating and capital expenditures with cost optimization focus
• Champions continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory
• Maintains productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Provides leadership support as backup for Technical Manager and Laboratory Coordinator
