Job summary

Trinity Health Hartford is seeking a Referrals Coordinator to manage day-to-day operations of the central referrals department, provide leadership, and act as a role model in the absence of the Referrals Manager.

You will collaborate with management, support staff, and external offices to ensure timely and accurate referrals while maintaining HIPAA compliance and high-quality service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a medical office or billing department.
• At least 1 year in referrals department; 3+ years preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred; knowledge of patient billing preferred.
• Excellent keyboard skills; proficiency in Windows.

Position Purpose:

The Referrals Coordinator acts as a working referrals representative who is able to perform the everyday duties as the other representatives when needed. Oversees the day-to-day functions of the central referrals department on a daily basis and in the absence of the Referrals Manager. Acts as a role model and provides leadership to staff in the department. Works closely with the Referrals Training Specialists and Medical Group leadership and provides feedback on any trends, concerns or workflows that may impact referrals.

What you will do:

• Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the central referrals department in the absence of the Supervisor. Acts as a role model and provides leadership to staff in the department on a daily basis. Provides feedback to management for annual performance evaluations. Understands and adheres to all HIPAA privacy and security regulations, policies and practices.

• Works closely with management to ensure workflow, productivity and department standards are met; assists in the training and development of new staff and/or workflows; acts as liaison between external offices, providers, and staff; responsible for communicating problems, suggestions or concerns to management; suggests improvements to workflows and ensures that staff in the department are meeting department standards. Works closely with the clinical department staff as well as the business services staff in the performance of various duties.

• Acts as a resource to all internal and external customers offering guidance and support for referral related questions, process, and problems. Maintains statistical information and reports in conjunction with the department manager as directed. Works with staff to ensure an accurate and timely referral is processed and documented in accordance to department guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

• Experience within a medical office or billing department preferred.

• M ust have 1 year of experience in a referrals department/position.3+ years of referrals department/experience is preferred.

• Medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of patient billing preferred.

• Excellent keyboard skills. Requires proficiency in a Windows based computer environment. Accuracy and dependability required. Accurately assesses own strengths and weaknesses. Demonstrates the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform required job element to established standards..
