Responsibilities
The following are the major elements and requirements of the position and are not all-inclusive:
- Act as a liaison between insurance providers, healthcare providers, and the clinic to ensure referrals are processed correctly for medical specialty visits.
- Schedule referrals for patients as requested by providers and/or staff.
- Communicate directly with clinics, referred clinics, and patients.
- Review clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies.
- Perform work aligned with the practice's mission, vision, and values.
- Make referrals to specialists, handle prior authorizations, and foster positive relationships between the office practices and specialists.
- File, scan patient reports, retrieve patient records for prior authorizations or medical records, and complete insurance prior authorizations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of referral processes, tests, surgeries, and insurance plans.
- Maintain good telephone etiquette and communicate politely and professionally.
- Navigate prior authorizations with insurance companies and support patients through resources like sliding fee scales and payment arrangements.
- Convey a positive image of the organization and maintain a friendly attitude towards internal and external customers.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a clinical environment preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Completion of a medical assistant program desired; certification within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems.
- Excellent phone and customer service skills.
- Positive, upbeat, customer-friendly attitude.
- Knowledge of prior authorizations and insurance plans.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to act as a patient liaison and help navigate the healthcare system.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task.
- Problem-solving skills for scheduling and referral issues.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
