Job summary

CHI Health Clinic is seeking a Referral Specialist to orchestrate patient access to specialized care by managing all referral and authorization processes. You will collaborate with physicians, APPs, clinic and hospital teams, and scheduling staff to coordinate referrals and appointments.

Daily duties include scheduling referred services, obtaining clearances, validating pre-authorizations, and ensuring precise documentation in the EMR for seamless patient workflows and timely care delivery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1 year healthcare-related experience, preferably involving scheduling and EMR utilization.
• Experience with Google Suite or Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates across departments to facilitate scheduling across the patient care continuum.
• Schedules patients for referred services in various clinic and hospital departments using EMR scheduling processes.
• Communicates with patients to gather demographic information and referral preferences for service timing and location.
• Validates pre-authorization for referred services prior to scheduled times.
• Manages referral work queues in the EMR and documents steps with final status communicated to the referring clinician.
• Ensures referral orders are entered accurately into the EMR and communicates changes to the referring clinician.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Referral Specialist, you will orchestrate patient access to specialized care by expertly managing all referral and authorization processes.

Every day, you will proactively obtain clearances for specialty visits, issue referrals for ancillary services (consults, imaging, labs), and secure approvals for medications, DME, home health, and other vital services.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and clear communication to ensure seamless and efficient service delivery for our patients.

• Collaborates across departments with physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), clinic, revenue cycle, hospital and ancillary department staff to facilitate scheduling across the patient care continuum.
• Schedules patients for referred services in various clinic and hospital departments following complex department-specific scheduling processes and utilizing applicable EMR scheduling programs.
• Effectively communicates with the patient/patient representative to gather pertinent demographic information and referral preferences to determine the appropriate time and location for the referred service.
• Collaborates with clinic staff and revenue cycle staff to validate pre-authorization for referred services prior to the scheduled time of the service.
• Manages referral work queues in the EMR, accurately documenting referral process steps and ensuring completion of the referral process with final status communication back to the referring clinician.
• Ensures referral orders are entered accurately into the EMR and communicates with the referring clinician for any necessary changes or clarifications.

Job Requirements

• High School Graduate /GED and Minimum of one year healthcare related experience, preferably in a position involving scheduling and EMR utilization, upon hire and

Pay Range

$15.67 - $22.14 /hour
