Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage referrals to specialty providers, verify insurance, and obtain authorizations within an established healthcare organization. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely communication, and comprehensive documentation in the EHR system.

The position is full-time, onsite in Goleta, CA, with a 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule. Experience with referrals, insurance verification, and EHR systems is required, and bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

Job Title: Referral CoordinatorJob Description

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for coordinating internal and external referrals to specialty providers, ensuring timely authorizations, accurate documentation, and seamless patient care coordination. This role works closely with patients, providers, insurance carriers, and specialty offices to manage referral workflows, verify coverage, obtain authorizations, and maintain records within the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Responsibilities

• Process and coordinate referrals to specialty providers in a timely and accurate manner.

• Verify patient insurance eligibility and obtain prior authorizations as required.

• Submit referral requests to health plans, IPAs, and specialty offices while tracking status through completion.

• Ensure all required documentation, including chart notes, laboratory results, and imaging reports, is attached to referral requests.

• Communicate referral updates and authorization status to patients, providers, and specialty offices.

• Maintain accurate documentation within the EHR system.

• Follow up on pending referrals to ensure timely completion and prevent delays in patient care.

• Collaborate with front office staff, clinical staff, and providers to support coordinated care.

• Manage a high volume of referrals while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

• Utilize medical terminology and knowledge of medical records to process referrals effectively.

Required Qualifications

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Goleta, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
