Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Healthcare experience is required; referrals experience preferred.
• Ability to track evolving insurance requirements and policies.
• Strong English communication in reading, speaking and writing.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with patients, specialists’ offices and insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations for specialty care and/or diagnostic tests.
• Schedules appointments for patients and submits required documentation to authorize visits with payers.
• Keeps up to date with insurance requirements to ensure specified specialties are covered.
• Follows referral and prioritization protocols for each payer.
• Develops good relationships with specialty offices to facilitate referrals.
• Maintains current lists of specialists, insurers, required documentation, and scheduling procedures.
• Prioritizes referrals by urgency and communicates progress with providers.
• Follows up and closes the referral loop per policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
