Job summary

County of St. Clair is seeking a professional librarian to provide reference, readers' advisory and collection development services at a combined Reference / Circulation Desk.

The role includes supervising staff, coordinating LBPH, Special Collections, and Government Documents assignments, and promoting information literacy across departments. The position requires a MLS/ALA-accredited degree, strong public-service orientation, and experience with cataloging, instruction, and using library

Qualifications

• MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program.
• Strong commitment to public service and customer care.
• Experience with reference interviews and readers' advisory.
• Familiarity with public library systems and databases.
• Ability to train staff and coordinate across divisions.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and library platforms.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and guide operation of assigned focus areas.
• Conduct reference interviews in person and by telephone.
• Instruct and assist patrons in using online catalogs, databases and library collections.
• Develop and maintain the reference collection for assigned areas.
• Participate in information literacy and library instruction programs.
• Research, evaluate and select materials for the collection.
