• MLS/MSIS from an ALA Accredited Library School is required.
• NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate required within three months of hire.

Job description

POSITION: Reference Librarian (Part Time) – Reference Department;

Reports to the Assistant Director

WORK SCHEDULE:

20 hours per week; Combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours

PAY RATE: Non-Exempt; $26.00 per hour

SPECIFIC DUTIES (Illustrative):

• Provide Reference service at the Reference Desk in person, by phone and e-mail.
• Instruct customers in formal and informal settings on the use of library resources,computers, and technology.
• Provide informal assistance to library users on computers as well as their personal digital devices such as laptops, cell phones, and tablets.
• Responsible for managing online e-mail reference questions and establishing processes and procedures for timely response from Reference staff.
• Receive interlibrary loan requests from customers.
• Assist patrons with printing, scanning, and use of other library equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MLS/MSIS or equivalent from an ALA Accredited Library School - *Spring 2025 Graduates are eligible to apply with proof of degree within first three months of hire (Required).

NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate within first three months of hire (Required).

Working knowledge of various software applications, the Internet, and online resources

Ability to work independently.

cooperatively with colleagues to serve a diverse clientele.
