Job summary

Oregon Department of Corrections in Ontario, Oregon seeks a Correctional Release Counselor for a 12-month developmental rotation, serving current DOC/OCE/Board of Parole staff with supervisor approval. Role focuses on interviewing adults in custody, assessing needs, and forming release plans with multiple stakeholders.

May involve coordinating housing, transport, and community resources to support safe transition.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, criminal justice or related field.
• Two years of professional counseling experience with clientele.
• Three years in social service with counseling responsibilities.
• Master's degree in behavioral science with one year counseling experience.
• CJIS background check required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Interview and work with adults in custody to assess needs and develop release plans.
• Explain Leave options and projected release date eligibility.
• Coordinate with Reentry Benefits Coordinator, Health Services and Behavioral Health Services.
• Facilitate communication between AICs and outside agencies.
• Respond promptly to grievances and requests from AICs.
