Job summary

Iowa Department of Corrections in Ottumwa seeks a Residential Officer for our 24-hour community-based corrections facility. You will engage directly with clients, conduct security checks, and support pro-social goals.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, applying motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies to foster lasting change, while transporting clients when required and prioritizing safety and ethical conduct.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to work in a 24-hour community-based corrections setting.
• Willingness to transport clients safely in the community.
• Understanding of safety, ethics, and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Perform facility security checks and searches.
• Transport clients within the community as needed.
• Observe, assess, and document client behaviors and interactions.
• Support case managers and clients to achieve goals.
• Respond to emergencies using defensive tactics and life-saving measures.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to promote client welfare and community safety.
