Position Summary
The Reefer Technician plays a key role in keeping customers' transport refrigeration equipment operating safely and efficiently. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined technician who enjoys troubleshooting, working with advanced refrigeration systems, and delivering high-quality service in a fast-paced dealership environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional workmanship.
Responsibilities
- Diagnosis & Repair:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair components of truck, trailer, V-series refrigeration units, gensets, and APUs.
- Identify and repair failures, including removing, replacing, and testing components with a multi-meter.
- Address freon leaks, which involves assembling, installing parts, soldering, and utilizing specialized refrigeration equipment.
- Maintenance & Installation:
- Perform preventive maintenance, component replacement, and service of refrigeration equipment.
- Maintain transport refrigeration systems on trucks, trailers, APUs, V-series units, gensets, and buses using scanners, electronic test equipment, and onboard computers for diagnostics.
- Install new Thermo King units on trailers, trucks, V-series units, and APUs as required.
- Documentation & Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of transport refrigeration unit services on trucks, trailers, APUs, and gensets by reviewing shop orders and preparing estimates.
- Document the details of repairs needed or completed.
- General Duties:
- Perform other duties and functions as directed by management to support the dealership's objectives.
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience diagnosing and repairing Thermo King, Carrier, APUs, gensets, and V-series units.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools, scanners, and multi-meters.
- Knowledge of freon systems, leak detection, and soldering.
- Proficient in refrigeration component replacement and preventative maintenance.
- EPA 608/609 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in shop/outdoor conditions.
- Basic computer literacy for diagnostics and repair logging.
