Federal Recycling is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Scale Clerk to support daily scale and plant operations. This position is responsible for accurately weighing incoming and outgoing trucks, entering transaction information, preparing and maintaining scale tickets, and coordinating with drivers, customers, vendors, and plant personnel.
The ideal candidate is organized, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment. This position requires strong attention to detail, computer proficiency, effective communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records while managing multiple priorities.
Responsibilities
- Operate truck scales and accurately weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles.
- Enter weights, material descriptions, customer information, and transaction details into the company's scale system.
- Create, print, distribute, and maintain accurate scale tickets and transaction records.
- Verify load information, purchase orders, shipping paperwork, and other required documentation for accuracy.
- Communicate professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, and plant personnel regarding loads, weights, material information, and discrepancies.
- Direct incoming and outgoing trucks and coordinate with plant personnel to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow.
- Maintain organized and accurate electronic and paper records related to scale transactions.
- Assist with driver and customer check-in, answering phones and emails, and other general office duties as needed.
- Identify and promptly report discrepancies involving weights, tickets, pricing, customer information, or material descriptions.
- Follow company procedures for purchasing, receiving, shipping, and documenting recyclable materials.
- Maintain a clean, professional, and organized scale office and work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support daily plant and administrative operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in an office, scale house, shipping and receiving, customer service, or data-entry position preferred but not required.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and computer-based systems.
- Ability to accurately enter and maintain transaction and customer information.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with appropriate direction.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with truck drivers, customers, vendors, plant employees, and management.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- This position is primarily office-based within an active recycling and industrial facility.
- Regularly uses a computer, telephone, scale system, and other standard office equipment.
- Frequent interaction with truck drivers, customers, vendors, and plant personnel.
- May occasionally be required to walk through or around plant and yard areas with active truck and industrial equipment traffic.
- May occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, seasonal temperatures, dust, noise, and other conditions associated with a recycling facility.
- Must follow all applicable facility safety procedures and PPE requirements when entering designated plant or yard areas.
