Job summary

Forsyth County Government is seeking a part-time Recycling Center Clerk in Cumming, GA. The role involves operating the recycling convenience center, handling cash transactions, and guiding customers on disposal options.

Responsibilities include opening/closing the center, ensuring proper material sorting, and maintaining clean, safe facilities. Prior experience in customer service or related operations is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two months' experience and/or training involving recycling center operations, general office work, customer service, or general maintenance.
• Part-time Regular employees receive personal leave accrual at 1/2 the rate of the full-time employees.

Responsibilities

• Opens/closes recycling center facilities daily, locks/unlocks buildings and gates, activates/deactivates alarm system, and reports problems to supervisor.
• Provides customer service and information on department facilities, services, fees, procedures, or other issues; responds to routine questions and requests for service.
• Determines whether materials are acceptable for the center and explains disposal options for hazardous materials or non-disposable items.
• Directs customers in proper separation of refuse and disposal procedures; calculates charges and ensures materials go to appropriate bins.
• Receives and balances payments; prepares bank deposits and forwards as appropriate.
• Operates compactors and monitors their condition to identify problems.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks; keeps areas clean and safe, and performs minor repairs as needed.
• Maintains records of work activities, cash receipts, and hours worked by community service workers.
