Job summary

The City of Weslaco Recycling Center is seeking a Recycling Center Attendant to provide customer service to the public and handle recyclable materials. You will assist visitors, sort and move recyclables, and help maintain the center’s operations.

You will also drop off recyclables at vendor facilities, transport containers, and assist during special events. The role requires reliability, safety awareness, and ability to work in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma; or equivalent.
• Have one (1) to three (3) years of experience in the field.
• Must have a current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.

Responsibilities

• Delivery and pick-up of containers and trailers to participants in the city's recycling program at city buildings and parks.
• Oversee Recycling Center during operating hours and assist incoming customers as needed.
• Delivery of recyclable items to corresponding vendors.
• Maintenance of Recycling Center, equipment, and vehicles.
• Oversee recycling program during special events.
• May be assigned other duties; duties may change with city needs.
• Respond during emergency situations if required.
• Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• May work beyond normal hours including nights and weekends.

Job Summary

This position participates in the City's recycling program with responsibility of providing customer service to the incoming public and material handling of recyclable materials at the City of Weslaco Recycling Center, dropping off recyclable materials at the designated vendor drop off facilities, and pick up of recyclable materials at City of Weslaco facilities. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for the delivery and pick-up of containers and trailers to participants in the city's recycling program at various city buildings and parks.
• Responsible for overlooking the Recycling Center during operational hours and assist incoming customers as needed.
• Delivery of recyclable items to corresponding vendors.
• Responsible for proper maintenance of Recycling Center, equipment, and vehicles.
• Will be responsible of overlooking the recycling program when participating in special events.
• Employee may be assigned other duties in addition to those listed; duties may change according to the changing needs of the city.
• May be required to respond during emergency situations.
• Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
• Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
• Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma; or equivalent.
• Have one (1) to three (3) years of experience in the field.
• Must have a current valid Class \"C\" Driver's License and be insurable.

• Safe and effective operation of hand tools and light equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and to perform work under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.
• Ability to interact effectively with co-workers.
• Recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken to ensure employee safety.
• Carry out duties in busy, public congested areas.
• Employee must have the ability to make good judgment when making decisions regarding their job duties and be able to have the following mental functions: reading, simple, math calculations, and withstanding moderate amounts of stress.
• Proficient motor skills to operate motor vehicles, tools, and light equipment in an efficient and safe manner.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily. Will include lifting, moving, and positioning/loading heavy objects (up to 100lbs).
• Work also involves pulling, pushing, remain stationary or move about the full workday.
• Driving in adverse weather troublesome road conditions may be required.
• Employee must be able to work in the presence of heat, cold, odors, chemicals, noise, vibration, and rain during inclement weather.
