Responsibilities

The Scholar Recruitment team at Oklahoma State University assists high achieving students throughout their college search process, providing a personalized OSU recruitment experience in order to meet individual territory and overall enrollment goals. The successful candidate for this position will join a gregarious, dedicated team that completes work in the following areas.

Recruitment and Outreach Strategy

As a Recruitment Specialist at OSU, you will work within an overall strategy that helps strengthen your recruitment impact. Your focus will mainly be on working with “scholar recruitment,” or high achieving prospective students as well as those designated VIP. To do this, you will need to demonstrate self-direction, creativity, and strategic thinking in prospect development, yield enhancement, customer service, and problem resolution. You will also:

  • Collaborate with admissions counselors and campus partners, including the OSU Honors College, to ensure prospective students have a positive and well-rounded recruitment experience
  • Determine and execute strategies for effective outreach for students in assigned territories
  • Develop and initiate communication through calls, texts, emails, and personal interactions with prospective students, families, and counselors which may include monthly benchmarks for contact
  • Develop and conduct recruitment activities that further progress towards enrollment goals
  • Conduct trend analysis for your assigned territory and formulate action plans based on that analysis
  • Work in conjunction with recruitment staff and leadership to integrate your analysis and planning into the University’s overall enrollment plan
Building Relationships with Students and Their Support Systems

Relationships with prospective students, their families, and their counselors and other supports are the heart of our work. To recruit and assist prospective students in your territory, you will:

  • Serve, promote, and represent the University with excellence as the first point of contact for prospective students, families, and counselors and as an additional point of contact for scholar recruitment and VIP students, families, and counselors
  • Proactively anticipate and respond to student needs, providing resources and making mindful recommendations
  • Discuss and make clear OSU admissions, housing, scholarship, and financial aid processes and policies
  • Conduct personalized virtual and in-person appointments for students and families to ensure they feel confident in their college search process and understand OSU’s value
Presentations, Visits, and Events

To share the unique opportunities that Oklahoma State University offers to the Cowboy family, you will most frequently spend time with prospective students and families in a small group setting. You also may be called upon to give presentations to large and small groups both on- and off-campus. Your work schedule may extend beyond regular office hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, as needed, to best serve prospective Cowboys. You can expect to:

  • Meet and foster professional relationships with scholar recruitment prospective students and their families. Meetings will often take place on-campus but may include off-campus opportunities in a variety of settings
  • Participate in prospective student recruitment events, on- and off-campus, including college fairs, school visits, and other activities and events
  • Attend and assist with recruitment, conversion, and yield activities designed to market the university to prospective students
  • Be responsible for maintaining daily operations of a personalized visit program, including the hiring, supervising, and development of up to two student staff members who collaborate with internal and external partners to create itineraries for personalized campus visits
Customer Service and Hospitality

Providing prospective students, families, and counselors with unreasonable service is just one way we show what it means to be part of the Cowboy family. You will do this as part of your work within your territory, but you will also serve guests as they connect with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment. You will:

  • Assist with daily office operations including answering phones, responding to email, and greeting campus visitors
  • Provide counsel to prospective students, families and guests to meet customer service goals
Travel

Cowboys come from all parts of the world, and we do our best to meet them in their home communities. You will most often connect with future Cowboys on campus but may need to travel during certain parts of the year. You will find that you need to:

  • Effectively plan and execute in- and out-of-state travel multiple times per year, typically between 1 and 3 days per trip with minimal overnight stays
  • Represent the university in various environments
  • Maintain a personalized public presence in a wide range of environments including high schools, at college fairs, and in community settings
  • Publicize full name, work contact information, and time, date, and/or location of recruitment activities
Additional Considerations

This role also requires:

  • The ability to lift 45 pounds
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Recruitment Specialist I - One year of related experience
  • Recruitment Specialist II - Two years of related experience

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Valid Driver's License required

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

This job requires a high level of internal and external public contact serving as a liaison between the Admissions Office, various academic units and other organizations within the university. Strong written, verbal communication and technical skills are necessary. Knowledge of MS applications. Ability to lift 45 lbs.
