Waterbury Public Schools is seeking a Recruitment and Student Placement Coordinator to manage Pre‑K registrations city‑wide, including Maloney and Rotella Magnet Schools. The role reports to Early Childhood Education leadership and requires coordinating with families, staff, and outside agencies to ensure accurate placement.

The position is grant‑funded, non‑union, full‑time (35 hours/week) with a 12‑month schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with the public.
  • Incumbents may be required to possess a current CT Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Pre‑K registrations city‑wide, including Maloney and Rotella Magnet School applications.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies for registration.
  • Assign students to classrooms and prepare class lists.
  • Maintain data on students in school computer systems.
  • Distribute notices and advertising for registration.
  • Assist transportation coordinator in setting up bus routes.
  • Handle student transfers and forwarding records to departments.
  • Test new students for screening and placement.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.

PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION

This class is accountable for coordinating all Waterbury Public School Pre‑K registrations, including Maloney and Rotella Magnet schools.

PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Education: High School diploma required.
  • General Experience: At least 5 years’ experience working with the public.
  • B. CREDENTIALS
  • C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current CT Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.
  • D. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Must be familiar with testing methods and recruitment procedures;
    • Knowledge of various computer applications including Excel;
    • Should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Must be proficient in the maintenance of vital clerical records;
    • Must have the ability to work effectively with staff, parents and the community.
    • Bi‑Lingual preferred
PART III - POSITION SUPERVISES:

PART IV - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for Pre‑K registrations City‑wide, including both Maloney and Rotella Magnet School applications;
  • Collaborates with outside agencies for registration;
  • Assigns students to classrooms;
  • Prepares class lists for the teachers and office files;
  • Collects data on students for school computer system;
  • Responsible for notices and advertising distribution for registration;
  • Assists the transportation coordinator in setting up bus routes;
  • Responsible for all student transfers and forwarding student records to appropriate departments;
  • Provides testing of new students for screening and placement;
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Supervisor of Early Childhood Education Program.
