Recreational Therapist (RT) - Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS)

Located in South Central Virginia, The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Hughes Center also provides private, community-based educational services. We offer individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. Our multidisciplinary team aims to provide comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatments to increase each youth's functional independence, addressing medical conditions and challenging behaviors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. We encourage residents to adapt and apply learned skills in new environments to maintain their use in community settings.
The Hughes Educational Center operates day schools in Danville, South Boston, and Christiansburg, offering structured environments with low student-to-teacher ratios (4:1) and specialized programming focused on classroom ecology, individualized instruction, sensory integration, and parent collaboration, aiming to improve socialization and reduce maladaptive behaviors.
The Recreational Therapist develops, implements, and evaluates recreation therapy/treatment plans for residents at The Hughes Center, using specialized techniques to meet diverse needs. The role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team for clinical decision-making and treatment planning.

Pay is hourly, bi-weekly, and based on education and experience.
