Job summary

Discovery Ranch for Boys seeks a Recreational Therapist to develop and deliver therapeutic recreation programs in a residential treatment setting near Mapleton, UT. You will collaborate with Clinical Therapists and Youth Mentors to provide engaging, goal-oriented activities that support healing.

The role includes leading groups, planning outings, and coordinating adventure trips while maintaining safety and treatment objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in recreation therapy.
• State licensure (TRS) and national certification (CTRS).
• Holds a current or previous Ropes Course certification.
• Able to pass criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
• Utah driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
• First Aid & CPR certification (we may provide).
• Crisis Intervention training (we may provide).
• Google Suite proficiency or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

• Guide recreation and experiential therapy groups weekly.
• Complete recreation therapy intake assessments and develop a treatment plan to meet goals.
• Complete progress notes and other necessary documentation.
• Attend and participate in recreation therapy team meetings weekly.
• Plan therapy outings within budget in coordination with staff.
• Plan and carry out 3–5 adventure camping trips per year.
• Identify and mitigate risks to students and staff during activities.
• Co-facilitate a weekly academic rock climbing class.
• Lead winter sports (snowboarding, skiing) program during winter months.
