The State of Michigan is seeking a Recreational Therapist to join the Michigan Department of Corrections. This role involves providing therapeutic recreational services to mentally ill and disabled prisoners, participating in an interdisciplinary team, and managing specific cases. This position provides a full range of activity therapy activities and techniques to meet the developmental needs of mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners, within the discipline of recreational therapy. The role involves professional recreational therapy assignments and activities used in the therapeutic treatment of mentally ill/disabled prisoners. The position is part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, assessing needs, devising, and interpreting recreational therapy techniques and treatment interventions. It also involves case management duties for an assigned group of prisoners.
Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy.
Recreational Therapist 9: No specific experience required.
Recreational Therapist 10: One year of professional experience providing recreational therapy services equivalent to a Recreational Therapist 9.
Recreational Therapist P11: Two years of professional experience providing recreational therapy services, including one year equivalent to a Recreational Therapist 10.

This position may be hybrid up to 50%, with the first two weeks requiring in-office work for training purposes.

New hires and returning employees after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), either 40 or 80 hours of in-person training, depending on their role, followed by online training modules.
