Position Summary

Responsible for providing Recreational Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic activity interventions, and discharge leisure planning. Utilize individual and group activities to foster positive changes in patients' cognitive, social, emotional, or physical behaviors. Educate clients on healthy coping skills and leisure resources to support post-discharge leisure involvement. Ensure services adhere to current standards of practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program.
• Certification by the National Certification Board (NCTRC).
• Preferred: 2 years of experience in a psychiatric setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Establish treatment goals tailored to individual client needs and determine appropriate TR modalities.
• Evaluate client progress, document results, and follow all documentation policies.
• Assess clients' functioning levels, observe participation, and respond accordingly during therapy sessions.

Master and Individual Treatment Plans

• Record behavioral problems and interventions in a timely manner.
• Implement individual treatment plans collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain professional communication with other disciplines and external agencies.

AT Didactic Groups

• Initiate and implement new treatment programs in response to changes in mental health practices.
• Report challenges or needs for staff development to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Safety Protocols

• Instruct clients on proper equipment use, following protocols.
• Adhere to patient precautions and complete safety checklists.
• Manage supplies and equipment requests properly.

Observational and Clinical Skills

• Set behavioral limits appropriately based on client age and guidelines.
• Recognize and respond to verbal and non-verbal cues indicating potential aggression, including de-escalation techniques.
• Identify sensory perceptual changes, distinguish between illusions, delusions, hallucinations, and act to prevent harm.
