Job summary

Harbor House of Wheeling IV LLC is seeking a Recreational Services Director to plan, implement, and evaluate recreational programs aligned with residents' care plans.

The role involves leading activity staff, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring documentation in care records, with a focus on enhancing memory-care residents' quality of life. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional licensed or registered.
  • Has completed a training course approved by the State.
  • Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program; experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements activity programming to meet residents' needs and interests.
  • Prepares and posts a monthly schedule of activities.
  • Coordinates, directs, and conducts all planned activities.
  • Documents in patient/resident care records as appropriate.
  • Attends care conferences and updates activity plans with progress notes, goals, and treatment plans.
  • Confers with and reports to Administrator on a regular basis.
  • Coordinates volunteer services through orientation, training, and direction of volunteers.
  • Prepares and plans department budget for equipment, supplies, programs, and labor.

Job description

Harbor House of Wheeling IV LLC is seeking a Recreational Services Director to join their team! The Recreational Services Director plans, implements and evaluates recreational, physical, emotional and psychosocial programs in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan.

Recreational Services Director Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implements activity programming as planned and assigned to meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each resident.

  • Prepares and posts a monthly schedule of activities.

  • Coordinates, directs, and/or conducts all planned activities.

  • Documents in patient/resident’s medical record as appropriate.

  • Charts patient/resident attitude, participation level, etc.

  • Attends patient/resident care conferences, making updates to Activity care plans with progress notes, goals, and treatment plans.

  • Confers with and reports to Administrator on a regular basis or as particular situations require.

  • Assists with resident council by providing a meeting place, nametags, and other assistance as determined by resident council.

  • Coordinates volunteer services through orientation, training, and direction of volunteers.

  • Prepares and plans department budget for equipment, supplies, programs, and labor and submits to Administrator for review, recommendation, and approval. Seeks methods to control costs.

  • Handles department equipment according to standard procedures.

  • Assists residents to and from activity programs and outings.

  • Provides input to the assessment and evaluation of the resident’s participation when requested.

  • All other duties, as assigned.

Recreational Services DirectorSkills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

  • Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately and independently with patients, families, and other staff members.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to perform the tasks required and lead groups in activities.

  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Recreational Services Director Education and Experience:
  • Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is licensed or registered, as required, by the State and is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body.

  • Has completed a training course approved by the State.

  • Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program; experience in a health care setting preferred.

  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.

  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
