Job summary

Vanderheyden Hall Inc. seeks a qualified professional to manage and implement a comprehensive agency-wide therapeutic recreation program, aligning with treatment goals and community engagement.

The role involves collaboration with Clinical, Education, and Residential teams, budgeting and documentation, and coordination of activities both inside and outside the community. Evening/weekend availability and a valid NYS driver's license are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the recreation field preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Ability to complete training including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and perform a physical restraint.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement a recreation program within the treatment setting.
  • Communicate regularly with Clinical, Education, and Residential teams.
  • Manage budgeting, distribution, and documentation of the Recreation Budget.
  • Coordinate documentation for Assessments, Progress Notes, Attendance Sheets, and Treatment Plan Narratives.
  • Liaise between Residential and the community for activities and events.
  • Coordinate liaison with community recreational activities for the agency.
  • Maintain all recreation equipment and areas.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation
Two years of experience in the recreation field (preferred)
Valid NYS Driver's License
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training
Ability to perform physical restraint
Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Job description

Responsible for the management and implementation of an agency-wide therapeutic recreation program that meets the needs of Vanderheyden individuals and their families.

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Manage and implement a program that provides an environment to carry out individuals’ roles in the overall treatment program and therapeutic interactions through experiential methods of learning recreation.
  • Communicate regularly with Clinical, Education, and Residential through meetings and documentation of individuals served.
  • Manage the proper budgeting, distribution, and documentation of the Recreation Budget.
  • Coordinate all documentation relating to Recreation Activities including Assessments, Progress Notes, Attendance Sheets, Program Activity Sheets, and Comprehensive Treatment Plan Narratives.
  • Act as liaison between Residential and the community to coordinate activities and special events for individuals in and out of the community.
  • Act as liaison with community recreational activities for the agency side.
  • Maintain all recreation equipment and areas.

Required Education, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, or other related degree.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the recreation field preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Ability to complete all training, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and perform a physical restraint.

Abilities and Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
