Job summary

Vanderheyden, Inc. is seeking a Recreation Therapist to manage and implement an agency-wide therapeutic recreation program for individuals and families.

You will facilitate experiences that align with the overall treatment plan and coordinate with Clinical, Education, and Residential teams. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, at least two years of recreation experience, and a valid NYS Driver’s license, plus completion of TCI training and ability to

• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, or other related degree.
• Minimum of two years of experience in the recreation field preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver's License.
• Ability to complete all training, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and perform a physical restraint.

Responsibilities

• Manage and implement a program that provides an environment to carry out individuals’ roles in the overall treatment program and therapeutic interactions through experiential methods of learning recreation.
• Communicate regularly with Clinical, Education, and Residential through meetings and documentation of individuals served.
• Manage the proper budgeting, distribution, and documentation of the Recreation Budget.
• Coordinate all documentation relating to Recreation Activities including Assessments, Progress Notes, Attendance Sheets, Program Activity Sheets, and Comprehensive Treatment Plan Narratives.
• Act as liaison between Residential and the community to coordinate activities and special events for individuals in and out of the community.
• Act as liaison with community recreational activities for the agency side.
• Maintain all recreation equipment and areas.

Compensation:

$25-$28 an hour
