Palo Verde Behavioral Health is seeking an experienced Recreation Therapist to join our team!
Palo Verde Behavioral Health Hospital provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PVBH is an 84-bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial, and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PVBH has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in Tucson, AZ, at the base of the Catalina Foothills, PVBH is minutes to Saguaro National Park and the University of Arizona.
The Recreational Therapist provides group therapy for patients and documents the process in the patient record in accordance with facility procedures. A background in creative arts or expressive arts would be preferred to support patient knowledge and growth within their healing process.
This position focuses on coordinating therapeutic activity programs to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of patients. It involves preparing reports on patient progress and modifying programs based on the treatment team’s consensus and patient needs.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or a closely related therapy field. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Recreational Therapist is strongly preferred. Excellent communication, time management, Handle with Care, and psychotherapy skills are required.
Licensure/Certification (Preferred): Maintain current professional licenses and certifications such as Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist, Expressive Arts Therapist, Yoga Therapy, CPR, Handle with Care (HWC), and a Valid fingerprint clearance card.
