New York City Children’s Center (NYCCC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) facility, is currently hiring full-time Recreation Therapists to provide recreational therapy to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances. Positions available at the Queens and Bronx campuses.

NYCCC is a multi-faceted community-based psychiatric center providing behavioral health services to children and adolescents in the greater New York City area. With campuses in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx; NYCCC provides a variety of inpatient and community services including Day Treatment Programs, Behavioral Health Clinics, Mobile Integration Team (MIT), Community Residences, and Peer Advocacy Services. The recreation programs are fully integrated with inpatient services which allows NYCCC to provide a full continuum of care to the children and adolescents they serve.

As a Recreation Therapist, you will assist in the development and implementation of recreation therapy programs including:

• Coordinating recreation therapy activities for children and adolescents in an individual or group setting
• Observing and recording individuals’ participation, progress, and responses
• Participating in treatment team meeting and making recommendations to treatment plans as needed
• Maintaining and documenting individual’s records

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation; or
• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education and one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency; or
• Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); or
• Current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist
