By designing and leading dynamic programs, the Recreation Therapist helps individuals build essential life skills, improve their mental health, and foster a sense of community. Key Responsibilities
  • Group Facilitation and Management: Plans and conducts daily recreation and recovery groups, managing group dynamics to maximize individual participation and achieve positive outcomes.

  • Individualized Activity Plans: Implements personalized activity plans for individuals served and mentors staff in executing these plans, ensuring a creative and engaging group environment.

  • Assessment and Goal Monitoring: Assesses and reassesses individuals’ strengths, needs, and progress towards treatment goals, adjusting plans as necessary to ensure continued progress.

  • Therapeutic Activity Supervision: Completes and supervises therapeutic activity assessments, ensuring that services are aligned with the treatment needs and goals of individuals served.

  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensures timely, accurate, and legible documentation of services provided, adhering to professional standards, facility procedures, and department requirements.

Additional Details

*Must be eligible to test for CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist). Individuals seeking certification apply to NCTRC and must meet established standards that include education, experience, and continuing professional development. The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential is granted by NCTRC after the specific educational and experiential qualifications are met, eligibility to take the exam is established, and testing is successfully completed. Candidates are eligible to register for the NCTRC certification exam if they are in compliance with NCTRC’s Certification Standards and Prerequisites, and it has been determined by NCTRC that all professional eligibility requirements have been met through the path to professional certification. When a candidate is awarded the CTRS credential, it serves as evidence that the individual, through knowledge and experience, has met NCTRC’s CTRS Certification Standards. The award of the CTRS credential is a limited license to use the titles of “Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist®” and “CTRS®” subject to NCTRC’s Certification Standards.
