City of Dothan is seeking a full-time Recreation Aide to assist with Therapeutic Recreation Programs, plan activities, supervise participants, transport them, and help maintain facilities. The role supports special populations through events like dances, camps, and trips, including Special Olympics activities.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and offers responsibilities in program planning, supervision, and daily facility upkeep.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six (6) months recent work experience using lawn mower and trimming equipment preferred.
• Six (6) months recent work experience with special needs participants in a group setting preferred.
• Four (4) months recent (within the last two years) seasonal or part-time employment with the City of Dothan performing responsibilities in recreational, educational, and/or athletic programs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with registering, organizing, and conducting special population programs and City special events.
• Provide transportation via van or bus daily for center participants.
• Plan or assist in planning recreational programs and social activities for special populations.
• Assist with preparations for programs, tournaments, events, and special activities.
• Instruct and supervise Special Olympics sports programs.
• Perform custodial maintenance; clean and restock restrooms; maintain floors and janitorial supplies.
• Supervise facilities usage and enforce policies.
• Assist with supervision of personnel.
• Perform related duties.
