Salary Range: $14.00 - $50.00

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

The Part‑Time Recreation Specialist Instructor I is responsible for supervising program participants and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. This role involves teaching a variety of Recreation and Leisure Enrichment classes across different age and skill levels. The instructor may specialize in one or more program areas and is expected to deliver effective and enjoyable instructional experiences. The role also includes administrative duties and may involve assuming the responsibilities in the absence of a Recreation Specialist II when necessary.

Essential Examples of Duties
  • Supervise and engage participants during program activities.
  • Deliver group instruction across various recreational disciplines, following defined program outlines and goals.
  • Evaluate participant progress and maintain accurate attendance and performance records.
  • Set up and clean up classrooms, studios, or activity spaces, including responsibility for facility opening and closing when required.
  • Implement program components and carry out assignments as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Promptly report any incidents or safety concerns to supervisory personnel.
  • Adhere to all City of Hialeah policies and procedures, particularly those concerning safety and risk management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Must have ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, stand, hear, hands to finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write English. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment; such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machines. Work is performed indoors within a quiet to moderately noisy environment. Must be able to lift, carry and or push articles weighing up to 20 lbs.

Minimum Training and Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age. Possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Capable of assisting participants of all ages with diverse needs. Previous experience working in a recreational, educational, or arts-focused setting is a plus. Proficient in instructional methods adaptable to various age groups and abilities. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to attend and complete required training sessions. Any combination of education and experience may be considered.
