State of South Carolina seeks a Recreation Coordinator at McCormick Correctional Institution to plan and implement a broad recreation program for inmates, supervise Recreation Assistants, and manage equipment and supplies. The role includes fitness education and coordinating volunteers to enhance inmate well-being.

The incumbent will lead hobbycraft activities and oversee maintenance of recreational spaces, ensuring safety and program quality within a correctional setting.

Formación

• High school diploma with relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation, therapeutic recreation or related field substituted for experience.
• Two years' experience in the recreation field (SCDC minimum requirements).

• Identify activities for the entire inmate population including continuous tournament activities and passive recreation activities.
• Select, train, and provide daily supervision for Inmate Recreation Assistants.
• Requisition, control, and maintain equipment/supplies.
• Conduct training on rules, methods, and techniques for activities.
• Conduct physical fitness and health education classes; coordinate volunteers and community resources to assist.
• Supervise Hobbycraft program.
• Maintain recreational facilities/areas.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

Highschool diploma and relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation, therapeutic recreation or a related field can be substituted for experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and two (2) years' experience in the recreation field.

• A bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation, therapeutic recreation or a related field can be substituted for experience.
