Job summary

The GEO Group provides comprehensive recreation programs for detainees and oversees facilities and equipment to ensure safe, engaging activities. This role supports a viable recreation program across the detainee population and coordinates events and daily operations.

You will supervise athletic activities, enforce safety rules, and maintain records while ensuring compliance with facility policies and security requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certification required.
• Additional education in Physical Education, recreational therapy, or related field is highly desirable.
• Prior experience working with a prisoner population or in a physical education program is highly desirable.
• Must be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize recreation activities.
• Coach all athletic teams.
• Organize and conduct all competitions and tournaments.
• Explain and demonstrate proper technique and use of recreational equipment with safety rules.
• Inspect recreation area for cleanliness and safety.
• Conduct weekly safety training sessions with recreation orderlies and clerks.
• Check detainees in and out of the gym.
• Maintain recreation department records.
• Order, maintain, and schedule repairs of all equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary: The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the implementation and operation of a viable recreation program for all detainees. Oversees the recreation facilities and equipment.

• The Recreation Specialist plans and organizes recreation activities.
