The City of Battle Creek is looking for someone to perform work planning, developing, promoting, and implementing the City’s recreation programs, activities and events. Oversight of facilities/parks associated with assigned programs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Director. Supervision is exercised over all personnel assigned within the programming function.
Candidates who meet the qualifications will be required to test on the following: Business Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Proofreading and Work Use & Vocabulary.
- Directs the development and planning, coordinates delivery, and evaluates all City recreation programs and activities, consistent with organizational mission, goals, and objectives. Assesses the success of programs and activities through data collection and customer interaction, prepares evaluation reports, and makes recommendations for program improvements. Assists programmers executing activities, events and community programs by managing logistics, preparing facilities and ensuring proper equipment.
- Works directly with partner organizations to coordinate the delivery of recreation programs and activities as well as community-wide special events and festivals. Collaborates with maintenance and custodial staff to ensure all recreation facilities within program deliverables are clean, safe and well-maintained.
- Prepares/ implements marketing and promotional strategies to communicate program opportunities and promote community engagement, such as recreational program guides, newspaper ads, mass email and social media communications. Manages/ monitors department’s daily website information and communications including social media activity.
- Gives speeches, conducts classes, and represents the department at community events promoting services.
- Recruits and provides oversight to assigned staff as well as seasonal/temporary/volunteer workers; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments, organizes staff training, reviews progress, evaluates employee performance, and directs changes as needed.
- Supports annual budget planning; prepares annual budget requests for assigned areas; manages/ monitors budget revenues and expenses; implements cost control strategies as needed. Assists in writing and administering grants. Manage and administer program related contracts and partnership agreements.
- Assures compliance with established departmental and city policies and procedures.
- Researches and seeks additional program partners and new user groups as well as sponsorship programs.
- Services, coordinates and provides supervision for groups and group rentals of recreation facilities.
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in business or public administration, parks and recreation administration, or related field.
- 3-5 years experience providing recreational services.
- 1 year in program management and program staff supervision.
Special Requirements:- Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
