Job summary

Gwinnett County is seeking a Program Supervisor to develop, oversee, and schedule daily recreation programs and facility events at the Lilburn Activity Building. The role includes supervising staff, evaluating performance, and handling hiring and disciplinary actions.

Responsibilities also cover safety, permits, budget oversight, and coordination with departments to meet programming needs. The position may require varied hours, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Health and Human Services, Senior Services, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of related recreation support experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (within 6 months of hire).

Job Description

The Program Supervisor will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and scheduling the daily activities of recreation-related programs and facility events at the Lilburn Activity Building. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising staff, including prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Essential Duties
  • Ensuring safety of program participants and facility operations in respective areas of the County, as well as maintaining a healthy and safe working environment
  • Implementing and scheduling programming and special events for the facility, parks, pavilions, and athletic fields
  • Communicating, developing, and enforcing guidelines, policies, and procedures in relation to facility user groups
  • Completing and processing paperwork and permit requests, including handling the permitting of all rentals, including indoor/outdoor recreation, athletic, and pavilion facilities, as well as preparing and maintaining various records and forms regarding program objectives, evaluations, rules, regulations, ordinances, and financial statuses
  • Handling daily operations, including facility maintenance oversight, cash handling, and preparing, maintaining, and monitoring budgets and purchasing, and completing Civic Rec entries for camps, programs, and classes
  • Implementing and coordinating activities with internal and external departments to determine programming needs
  • Evaluating program objectives and marketing strategies, as well as advertising and communicating about upcoming programs and events in multi-media platforms, including outreach events
  • Receiving and resolving complaints and interacting with user groups, the public, and volunteers involved in public relations
  • Overseeing youth development programs, including camps and adventure days out
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level
Public Speaking Duties
  • Addressing coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., in a public setting to express the department's missions and goals
  • Interacting with user groups, associations, and other agencies
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • This job may work a variety of hours, weekends, daytime, evenings, and/or holidays.
Grade
  • The grade for this position is a grade B32(1). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Health and Human Services, Senior Services, or a closely related field AND
  • Two years of related recreation support experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (within 6 months of hire)
