Job summary

Quail Run Hospital, part of Universal Health Services, in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a Recreation Therapist to plan and implement therapeutic recreation, music, and art groups for patients across units.

You will document progress, help set treatment goals, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient‑centered care, while maintaining detailed daily notes and progress toward goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Recreation Therapy, or related therapeutic discipline is required.
• Certification/licensure in Recreation, Music Therapy or Expressive Arts (CTRS, MT-BC or REAT) required.
• One year of related experience in psychiatric patient care preferred.
• Handle With Care and BLS for Providers training may be required.

Job Description

The Recreation Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic recreation, music, and/or art groups for assigned program, which involves program planning, documentation, assessments, defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Effectively plan and implement recreation/music therapy for assigned units. Participate in Holiday Programming planning and facilitation all treatment programs.
• Utilize advanced knowledge of counseling and therapeutic concepts and methods for determining therapeutic services for psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. Demonstrate knowledge of group dynamics as well as therapy and practice of group processing.
• Ensure timely documentation of master treatment plan interventions and ensure interventions are patient centered. Provides assessment in psychosocial/leisure and recreational skills development/deficiency. Contribute to treatment plan with specific goals and interventions to be achieved in therapeutic activities.
• Maintain current documentation in daily progress notes, including name of therapeutic group/intervention, and patient’s progress towards goal. Provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to therapy, treatment interventions, and therapeutic objectives, as appropriate and necessary.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Music, or Recreation Therapy, or related therapeutic discipline required.
• Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas: Recreation, Music Therapy or Expressive Arts (CTRS, MT-BC or REAT) Required.
• One year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
• Handle With Care and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Providers required. Training provided at the facility.
• Level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
