Job summary

Valley Hospital seeks a Lead Music, Art Recreation Therapist to guide MART services within a private psychiatric setting in Phoenix. The role involves leading program activities, coordinating with the treatment team, and modeling professional care for patients with mental health and substance use needs.

The candidate must hold relevant degrees (Music, Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy or Occupational Therapy) with licensure/certification expected within six months and CPR/SAMA training completed

Qualifications

  • Candidate must hold a college degree in a therapeutic discipline or higher.
  • Licensure or certification inMusic, Art, Recreation or related therapy must be obtained within 6 months.
  • CPR certification required prior to hire and SAMA training prior to restraining procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MART program activities as directed by the MART Director.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to plan and implement treatment goals.
  • Provide continuous patient care, observation, and modeling for patients.
  • Support department goals and patient safety during therapy sessions.

We are a private 122 bed psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health care and chemical dependency counseling services. Valley Hospital is centrally located with easy access to many areas of greater Phoenix. We are between North 35th and 36th Streets with East Earl to our north and East Thomas to our south.

Position Summary:

The Lead Music, Art Recreation, (MART) Therapist performs leadership duties as directed by the Director of MART. These duties will support the department’s goal of planning and implementing specific therapeutic services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Music, or Recreation Therapy, or related therapeutic discipline; or a Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Two (2) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
  • Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas:
  • Music, Art, Recreation, or Music Therapy, or the ability and qualifications to obtain licensure or certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification prior to hire
  • Successful completion of Preventative Management Aggressive Behavior Training (SAMA) prior to assisting with a restraining procedures.
  • May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
