City of Benicia is seeking a Recreation Leader - Youth Basketball Referee to officiate youth basketball games for ages 6–12, ensuring safety and fairness in every game. The role requires First Aid/CPR certification after hire and emphasizes professionalism and clear communication with children, coaches, and parents.
Scheduled Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with morning or afternoon shifts. The position is under the Recreation Supervisor in the Parks & Community Services Department.
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader - Youth Basketball Referee will be responsible for the supervision of children (6 – 12 years of age) in the Benicia Parks & Community Services Department.
Standard First Aid and CPR certifications are required once hired for the Recreation Leader - Youth Basketball Referee position. The Recreation Leader - Youth Basketball Referee is a mandated reporter position.
The Youth Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball games and ensuring that games are conducted safely, fairly, and in accordance with basic basketball rules.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of the basic rules of basketball.
Previous experience playing basketball is strongly preferred.
Referees will interact regularly with children, coaches, and parents and should demonstrate professionalism, patience, and strong communication skills.
The program operates on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Staff will be scheduled for either a morning or afternoon shift within the program's operating hours.
