City of San Diego seeks a Recreation Leader II to plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate recreation and leisure activities for youth and seniors at various sites. The role includes teen center programming and afterschool initiatives, plus creating flyers and monthly calendars.

You may work full-time or part-time with variable hours; bilingual skills may entitle extra pay, and employees may be eligible for retirement benefits under SDCERS.

Qualifications

  • Recreation leadership refers to planning, organizing, teaching, and/or leading typical recreation center or school activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, day camps, tiny tots, dance and music.
  • Qualifying physical education courses must involve participation in typical recreation center sports.
  • Volunteer hours are qualifying, but must be confirmed and documented by the agency where you acted as a volunteer.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate recreation and leisure activities for children, teens, and older adults at recreation sites.
  • Plan and organize teen and afterschool programs at specific recreation sites, including teen centers and/or recreation centers.
  • Prepare flyers and marketing materials and develop monthly calendars of activities.

Education

300 hours of recreation leadership experience
24 semester/36 quarter units of college-level coursework in recreation management, tourism and hospitality, child and family studies, physical education, and/or a related field
