Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a Recreation Leader 2 to shape engaging programs for all ages. You will organize activities, oversee facilities, and ensure safety while delivering positive experiences at community centers and fields.

Ideal candidates will be energetic, able to work weekends/evenings, communicate clearly, and maintain equipment and attendance records. Training may include First Aid/CPR and driving responsibilities as needed.

  • Promote safety of all program participants.
  • Oversee operations of community centers, fields, and gymnasium.
  • Respond to patrons' needs in person and by phone.
  • Perform basic custodial duties.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • May operate a vehicle as part of duties.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Assist in the coordination of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, special events, and other recreational activities.
  • Responsible for the preparation, set‑up and clean‑up of baseball, softball and soccer fields.
  • Perform a variety of general administrative duties including: answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees, and maintain attendance records.
  • Promote the safety of all program participants.
  • Assist with the set‑up and take‑down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities and special events.
  • Oversee the regular operations of a community center, fields, and gymnasium facility.
  • Respond to patrons’ needs for assistance and information in person and over the phone.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including personal computer.
  • Officiates or keeps score for sports activities.
  • Perform basic custodial duties.
  • Sets up and takes down building furnishings and arrangements.
  • Completion of work assignments may require operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with program participants.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, and/or by whatever creative means are necessary to cross communication barriers.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants and the public.
  • Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment, and/or supplies required for the assigned activity up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
  • May require ability to acquire and maintain a Child First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • May require ability to work outdoors in unpleasant weather conditions.
  • May require ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions.
  • May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
  • An employee will not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
