As an Instructor for Park and Recreation, you will play a vital role in delivering dynamic and engaging classes and activities across City facilities including recreation centers, athletics programs, tennis centers, Watson Park, and golf course clubhouses. This limited part‑time position offers the opportunity to share your expertise in arts, crafts, sports, music, or playground activities, enriching the lives of participants of all ages and backgrounds.

Your responsibilities include designing and leading interactive programs that cater to varying experience levels, ensuring each participant feels included and inspired. You may coordinate class logistics, manage materials, guide fellow instructors, and create a welcoming environment that promotes community connection, physical fitness, and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities
  • Design the course and write course descriptions.
  • Develop and submit lesson plans and materials lists.
  • Effectively convey information as advertised to participants.
  • Keep track of class rosters.
  • Notify the appropriate supervisor of any changes to the class schedule or your ability to conduct the class.
  • Submit timesheets by the specified dates for timely payment.
  • Conduct classes, activities, or games in your area of expertise.
  • Work directly with participants and organize materials for instruction.
  • Perform basic custodial duties.
  • Set up and take down building furnishings and arrangements.
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of the subject or activity to be taught.
  • Proficiency sufficient to be a credible instructor.
  • Ability to teach students with a wide variety of experience and aptitude.
  • Ability to develop a class plan and conduct classes according to that plan.
  • Clear and effective communication, orally and in writing, or by other creative means.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants, and the public.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment, furniture, and supplies.
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in unpleasant weather or windy conditions.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to health or safety in the workplace.
