City of Dana Point is seeking a team‑oriented Recreation Leader II to assist in coordinating and implementing recreation and community service programs and special events at the Community Center. The role involves leading activities, setting up facilities, and ensuring safety and quality of service.
The position is a journey‑level, part‑time role in the Recreation Division, with potential weekend/evening hours and opportunities to supervise junior staff.

Under general supervision, assist in the coordination and implementation of recreation and community service programs and special events including monitoring and leading activities at the Community Center; prepare facility areas for recreation programming and facility rentals; perform necessary maintenance to facilities; and perform other related duties as assigned.
This is a journey‑level class within the Recreation Leader series and is typically a part‑time position in the Recreation Division which may require working weekends, holidays and/or evenings. Employees within this class are distinguished from Recreation Leader I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned and by the level of experience attained. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Incumbents at this level may oversee the work of lower‑level recreation staff. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Recreation Leader I level, or those incumbents with prior experience. Incumbents in this position have the ability to complete diverse tasks requiring applying established practices and procedures and utilizing creativity and enthusiasm.

Position may require the ability to perform occasional light lifting and carrying; sitting for prolonged periods of time; occasional walking, standing and/or bending. Continuous hand use and finger dexterity is needed to use the computer keyboard and operate standard office equipment; it may require occasional pushing and pulling. This position also requires the ability to have a near vision for reading correspondence, reports, agendas and other records. Good hearing is required when communicating on the telephone or in person.
Primarily office environment with controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Occasional field work where incumbent may be required to work on all types of floor surfaces, in a variety of facilities, in varying temperatures. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids while rendering First Aid and/or CPR.
Note: All employees of the City of Dana Point are designated by both State law and City ordinance to be “Disaster Service Workers.” In the event of a declared emergency or an undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees’ normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
