Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision, provides stellar customer service on behalf of the Parks & Recreation Department to the City’s recreational patrons of all ages. Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may assist with a variety of routine duties; patron registration, activities and programs; monitoring City facilities and equipment; assisting with City events; and setting up scheduled activities. Applicants must enjoy working with people, be enthusiastic, reliable, proactive, and punctual.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the close supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Parks & Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides consistent stellar customer service to recreational patrons;
  • Assist participants in the City’s recreation programs, activities, or facilities, including class registration, gym memberships, and rental facility applications;
  • Attend and participate in executing City’s special events;
  • Provide and maintain a safe program environment for participants by enforcing required safety precautions and City guidelines;
  • Maintain all equipment issued by the City and inform the supervisor when there are hazards or equipment replacement needs; and
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Assists front desk by answering the telephone, providing information and stellar customer service to the public, gym membership sales, and program registration;
  • Complete cash and credit card transactions, operate a cash register and credit card machines, give correct change, maintain appropriate activity and cash reports, and follow proper money handling procedures;
  • Facilitate rentals and usage of City facilities, open and close facilities for rentals, including setting and cleaning up, prepare facilities for group and rental activities;
  • Issue, monitor, and track equipment during rentals and collect and store equipment after use;
  • Assist in operating Aquatic Center pool gate during public swim sessions, complete cash transactions, operate a cash register, give correct change, maintain appropriate activity and cash reports, and follow proper money handling procedures;
  • Assist in operating Aquatic Center Concessions Stand, prepare food, collect payments, and helping set up and close the concession stand;
  • Keep concessions and kitchen floor, counters, and equipment clean and free of clutter.
  • Assist with executing indoor/outdoor programs, arts and crafts;
  • Instruct and participate in recreational activities; Admit patrons to recreation facilities, programs, and events; Maintain attendance and activity records;
  • Provide supervision for children, including homework assistance; and
  • Work with youth to develop and build essential skills emphasizing learning and sportsmanship.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Experience: Experience in related fields such as childcare, sports (coaching or playing), customer service, and/or volunteer work preferred.
  • Education: Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions at a level required by the job.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Act as liaison to patrons. Exercises tact and judgment when resolving problems.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain neat, accurate, and organized records.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine, count money, and provide change.
  • Ability to perform daily cleaning tasks and job duties.
  • Ability to operate food preparation equipment and dispensers.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide stellar customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide stellar recreational program standards and procedures
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid and current CPR/AED Certification and California Food Handlers Safety Card Certification or ability to acquire within six (6) months of employment are required. Minimum age of sixteen (16), with ability to obtain work permit if under the age of eighteen (18).

BENEFITS:
