San Bernardino offers access to major transit corridors, natural beauty, and a wide range of housing and lifestyle options. It’s a place where public service careers are supported by a strong sense of community and purpose — and where motivated professionals can grow, contribute, and be part of something meaningful.

About the Position:

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is seeking energetic and customer service-oriented individuals to serve as part-time Recreation Leaders at City community centers. This position organizes and leads recreational programs and special events for participants of all ages, promotes a safe and welcoming environment, and may provide guidance to Recreation Aides and volunteers.

They communicate effectively, work well with diverse groups, maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and can provide direction to Recreation Aides and volunteers. The successful candidate is also flexible and available to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.

A Day in the Life:

A typical day may begin with preparing activity spaces, equipment, and supplies for scheduled programs. The Recreation Leader welcomes participants, answers questions, and leads activities or special events. Throughout the shift, the Recreation Leader monitors safety, resolves minor issues, guides support staff, maintains program records, and ensures equipment and activity areas are organized and ready for use.

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or GED and six months' paid experience in customer service or recreation programs or one (1) year of volunteer services in customer service or recreation programs. Must be 18 years of age or older.
