Job summary

City of Boulder is seeking a part-time gymnastics coach to teach preschool and school-age participants in a dynamic youth program. You will set up equipment, monitor safety, and communicate with parents and staff to ensure a positive experience.

You will collaborate with the coaching team, provide feedback, and may assist with Xcel team coaching after demonstrating capability. A background check is required before first day. The role is 10 hours per week with a pay range noted.

This position offers the chance to join an inspired and dedicated coaching staff and become an integral part of our team.Job Description:GYMNASTICSESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTeaches gymnastics to preschool children ages 2 - 5 years old.Teaches school-aged, recreational gymnastics, ages 6 and older.Sets up equipment, maintain roll sheets, and communicate with parents.Takes proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries.Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or customers.Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as neededAssists with coaching Xcel girls’ teams or boys’ competitive program after proven job performance or experience.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSAbility to stay actively engaged and assist with spotting of gymnastics skills.Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgments related to safety. Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators, with excellent customer service.Ability to collaborate with coaching partners about lesson plan ideas. Work closely with coordinators and floor leads.Ability and willingness to accept and provide feedback.Knowledge and strong understanding of basic gymnastics with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.Knowledge and understanding and observing participant behavior and monitoring exertion levels.Knowledge and understanding of the importance of punctuality & consistency with the ability to commit to the agreed-upon schedule.Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTSPrevious experience working with preschool and school age children.Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.Prior or current member of USAG Gymnastics (USAG), either as an athlete or professional member.Prior experience performing or teaching gymnastics.MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCENo education or experience is required for this roleSUPERVISIONSupervision Received: Program SupervisorSupervision Exercised: NoneWORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTSPhysical and mental effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permit the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.Working environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Requires schedule flexibility, occasionally working nights and weekends.
