Job summary

The City of Boulder is seeking a Gymnastics Coach for a part-time, hourly position. You will guide preschoolers and school-age children, set up equipment, and communicate with parents while prioritizing safety in a collaborative coaching team.

You do not need formal education for this role; a background check is required, and scheduling may include evenings or weekends. CPR/First Aid is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with spotting of gymnastics skills.
  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgments related to safety.
  • Ability to communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators with excellent customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate with coaching partners about lesson plan ideas.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.
  • Knowledge of basic gymnastics and ability to provide coaching feedback while ensuring class management.

Generally, the hiring range is from the minimum up to 80% of the range. This is a part-time hourly position.

Under direct supervision, take a collaborative approach in developing our athletes and show a strong commitment to our participants and coworkers. This position offers the chance to join an inspired and dedicated coaching staff and become an integral part of our team.

GYMNASTICS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teaches gymnastics to preschool children ages 2 - 5 years old.

  • Teaches school-aged, recreational gymnastics, ages 6 and older.

  • Sets up equipment, maintain roll sheets, and communicate with parents.

  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or customers.

  • Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.

  • Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed

  • Assists with coaching Xcel girls’ teams or boys’ competitive program after proven job performance or experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with spotting of gymnastics skills.

  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgments related to safety. Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.

  • Ability totactfully and effectively communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators, with excellent customer service.

  • Ability to collaborate with coaching partners about lesson plan ideas. Work closely with coordinators and floor leads.

  • Ability and willingness to accept and provide feedback.

  • Knowledge and strong understanding of basic gymnastics with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.

  • Knowledge and understanding and observing participant behavior and monitoring exertion levels.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of punctuality & consistency with the ability to commit to the agreed-upon schedule.

  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous experience working with preschool and school age children.

  • Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.

  • Prior or current member of USAG Gymnastics (USAG), either as an athlete or professional member.

  • Prior experience performing or teaching gymnastics.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

No education or experience is required for this role

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical and mental effort:Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permit the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.

  • Working environment:Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Requires schedule flexibility, occasionally working nights and weekends. May work in both indoor and outdoor environments that are oftentimes impacted by weather and at times, unpredictable conditions.

  • Machines and equipment used: Frequently uses various fitness and/or dance equipment as well as occasionally standard office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators and copy/fax machines.
