Job summary

Town of Berthoud is seeking a fitness instructor to design, implement, and lead group fitness classes for youth aged 11–16 at the Berthoud Recreation Center.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Nationally accredited group fitness certification (ACE/AFAA/NASM/NETA) preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proper exercise and cueing techniques in small groups.
  • Respond to inquiries and maintain courteous interactions with patrons.
  • Prepare activity sites and ensure post-class cleanup and safety checks.
  • Enforce fitness program rules and report issues to supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and coordinate substitutes when needed.

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator, this position is responsible for designing, implementing, and instructing multiple group fitness classes that are safe, effective, and engaging for Berthoud Recreation Center participants of varying ages and ability levels. The primary focus of this role is youth group fitness programming for participants ages 11–16. Certifications are not required to apply.

  • Demonstrate proper?exercise and cueing?techniques in small groups.
  • Recognize emergent/dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly.? Administer first aid as needed.? Complete accident/incident reports as needed.?
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within assigned areas; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.?
  • Communicate and respond to messages from the?recreation?center staff?in a timely manner.?
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.?
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.? Sub for co-workers when available.? Responsible for securing substitutes for shifts?when?unable to work.??
  • Prepare site for activity, ensure proper clean up at?the?end of class and perform safety checks on equipment.?
  • Enforce?fitness program?rules and policies for patrons.?

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience may be considered for the position.?Advanced collegiate level experience (playing or coaching), or advanced certifications in fitness are strongly preferred. A typical way to demonstrate the education and experience necessary for the position is:

  • High School Diploma/ GED Equivalent
  • Nationally accredited group fitness certification through ACE, AFAA, NASM, or NETA and/or other national recognized organizations. (Preferred)
  • Enthusiastic and passionate with ability to motivate others to improve their overall fitness and health.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, basic nutrition, and exercise science to promote fitness and educate participants, within the scope of certification and training.
  • Must have excellent social, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of fitness programming.
  • Current certification in Community CPR, First Aid and AED or within 3 months of hire.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of general office software including word processing and spreadsheets as well as experience with specialized recreational management software or other fitness-related platforms.

Certificates And Licenses
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.
  • Nationally accredited group fitness certification through ACE, NASM, ACSM or any other nationally recognized organization (Preferred).

The employee may regularly travel to and from buildings to complete job responsibilities and tasks assigned. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and stimulating and may have times with frequent interruptions and frequent contact with members of the public.
