Job summary

Bend Park & Recreation District is seeking a Part-Time Facility Shift Lead to oversee operations of a recreation facility, guiding front-line staff and ensuring safe, smooth program delivery. You’ll coordinate scheduling, mentor staff, and respond to facility needs to maintain high service levels.

About the Job

The Facility Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing operations of a recreation facility with significant and varied staff, program and facility responsibilities.

A Day in the Life

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversees ongoing operations of recreation facility including multiple staff, programs and uses.
  • Provides leadership to all front‑line staff working during hours on duty, directing and assigning work, adjusting schedules, coaching and performance input.
  • Provides ongoing leadership and support to assigned program area(s), including training, mentoring, scheduling, directing, assigning work and assisting supervisor in hiring staff.
  • Adjusts facility schedule and operations to respond to conditions such as program needs, user load, safety, budget, environmental conditions; makes recommendations regarding staffing levels and scheduling.
  • Oversees recreation facility operations during assigned shifts, including technical operations such as swimming pools and ice rinks; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; reports maintenance issues.
  • Provides safety of participants and staff, implementing risk‑management practices across staff levels and programs.
  • Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Serves as the on‑site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according to protocols.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reportor; reports incidents of child abuse or neglect.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Schedule

This part‑time position will help with coverage as needed and will not have a consistent schedule. Shifts will be scheduled a minimum of two weeks in advance, and open shifts within two weeks will be available to pick up as they come up. The candidate must have availability Friday‑Monday.

What We’re Looking For
Education, Experience, and Training
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; two years of college courses in recreation or related field preferred.
  2. Two (2) years of experience working in a recreation facility or relevant experience with at least one (1) year team‑lead experience.
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
License and Certifications
  1. Basic first aid and CPR training and certification.
  2. Other specialty licenses and certifications may be required depending on facility and program assignment.
Working Conditions

The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.

  • Depending on facility, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, possibly in extreme weather.
  • Work schedule is varied and includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling.
  • Normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Ability to work and maintain focus in an environment with moderate noise and frequent interruptions.
  • Exposure to illness due to extensive contact with staff and public.
  • Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens and peripherals; manual dexterity and daily precise control of fingers while operating keyboard, mobile devices, telephone and standard office equipment.
Selection Process

Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies, including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for the position.
