Job Description
The
Recreation Coordinator plans, organizes, and oversees a variety of recreation programs and events, including sports, aquatics, youth activities, and camps. This role manages facility reservations, ensures safety compliance, maintains program records, and collaborates with staff, partners, and the public to deliver high-quality services. Additional duties include supervising part-time staff and volunteers, assisting with marketing, and supporting program setup and logistics. Evening and weekend hours are required based on program needs.

The employee exercises discretion and independent judgment under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director or their designee.
Essential Job Functions
A
Recreation Coordinator may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Plan, organize, and implement a variety of high-quality recreation programs, including but not limited to sports, fitness, aquatics, preschool, youth, and camps.
- Coordinate athletic field, shelter, gym, and room reservations. Ensure all payments and schedules are properly managed.
- Communicate athletic field and other outdoor activity setup requests to maintenance staff.
- Collaborate with community organizations and sponsors to enhance program offerings.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, budgets, expenditures, revenues, and equipment inventory; prepare reports and summarize data.
- Develop and maintain clear, written agreements with partners and contractors.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants. Ensure facilities and equipment meet health and safety regulations, arranging for maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service, resolving any issues or concerns of participants or their families. Respond to questions and complaints.
- Assist in preparing marketing materials to advertise programs and maintain positive public relations.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise part-time employees, independent contractors, and volunteers. Implement and interpret policies and procedures, effectively evaluating performance and providing feedback. Administer discipline as needed. Prepare staff schedules and make work assignments.
- Assist with registration activities and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Assist with planning, setting up, and tearing down events, including arranging tables and chairs, moving equipment, and cleaning up.
- Drive a vehicle to perform job-related errands, such as picking up supplies.
- Regular hours are Monday - Friday 8-4:30, plus evenings and weekends based on activity schedule.

- Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple programs simultaneously.
- Effective verbal and written communication for interacting with the public, city staff, and partners/vendors.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with city staff and the public.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program needs require.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
A
Recreation Coordinator, upon application, shall have the following experience and training:
- Minimum 1 year experience managing sports leagues.
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation or related field is required.
- CPR, AED, First Aid certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Parks and Recreation or related fields is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience is preferred.
- Preference for Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO), and/or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
