Job summary

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) is seeking qualified Recreation Instructors for the Community Centers to lead engaging recreational and educational programs for participants of all ages across multiple centers.

Responsibilities include motivating participants, preparing materials, ensuring safety, handling class logistics, and promoting new participants while maintaining exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience teaching subject matter classes is preferred.
• Completion of basic safety and instruction credentials is a plus.
• Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Motivates class participants and upholds center policies and procedures while teaching classes.
• Prepares for class promptly with set-up and breakdown of equipment and materials.
• Instructs and monitors participants during class by showing proper form, use of equipment, and modifications based on participant skills and abilities.
• Completes all administrative responsibilities associated with developing, planning, and leading classes.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for participants, staff, and other instructors before, during, and after class.
• Actively promotes and seeks new participants and provides excellent customer service.

We’re seeking qualified Recreation Instructors for the Community Centers to perform meaningful work, connecting our communities through programming and exceptional learning experiences. Recreation Instructors lead a variety of engaging recreational and educational programs for participants of all ages. Program areas may include arts and crafts, music, theater, dance, cooking, sports, camps, wellness, STEM, photography, robotics, history, languages, gardening, horticulture, community health education, finance, and other specialty recreation programs. Successful candidates will exemplify effective communication and planning skills. PRCS serves a diverse population of youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

• Loudoun Valley Community Center
• Lovettsville Community Center
• Lucketts Community Center
• Philomont Community Center
• Sterling Community Center

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Stays up to date with industry standards and subject matter trends.
• Communicates effectively with staff and all patrons.
• Participates in monthly meetings, events, and in-services.
• May perform additional duties related to their position.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of 8th grade.
• Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Six (6) months of experience teaching subject matter classes.
• Bilingual skills are preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certification.

Must undergo a criminal background check.

Schedules are flexible and can include morning, evening, and weekend hours. Hours vary based on the client, the center, and holiday needs.
